"Jimmy Cooks" is Mentioned in Lawsuit Filed Against Glock

Chicago mentioned both Drake and Lil Zay Osama in its 41-page complaint against gun manufacturer Glock. The lawsuit accuses the company of violating the Illinois Firearms Industry Responsibility Act by allowing their firearms to be altered into illegal machine guns. The law, passed last year, holds gun manufacturers accountable for public harm resulting from their unsafe and unlawful sales and marketing practices. Chicago referenced a cultural association of such firearms by mentioning Drake and 21 Savage's “Jimmy Cooks.” In the song, 21 raps about a Glock .45 with a switch. The city stated in its lawsuit that the ease of modifying Glocks and the prevalence of Modified Glocks have exacerbated the city's long-standing issue with gun violence. It argues that Glock could address the problem but prioritizes profits over public safety, thereby violating the law.

The lawsuit also states that Chicago police seized over 1,100 modified Glocks between 2021 and 2023. Chicago Deputy Mayor of Community Safety Garien Gatewood emphasized the city's struggle with violence, noting the frequency of mass shootings compared to other areas in the country.
